MONTHLY TITAN PARENT MEETING – SUMMER TRANSITIONS: April 12th – 9:00 am – Teacher Lounge

When colleges review a student’s application, they want to know what the student has done over the summer months. It’s a time to investigate curiosities, dive deeper into interests, give back to community, and/or simply explore.  As parents, how do we engage our children to take action after a few weeks of rest?  Our guest speaker from Lion’s Heart will share some resources.

For the parents of seniors, the summer months after graduation are extraordinary. Whether you are preparing them for college or supporting their career path, Sonja Montiel will spend time sharing resources and tips through one of the most critical transition period in your parenting adventure.

“FIT” HAPPENS – Developing the College List

The next Titan Parent Meeting  will be on March 8 at 7 pm, in the Tesoro Staff Lounge.  The topic will be “Fit” Happens  (Developing the College List).

Guest speaker: Breanne Boyle with CollegeWise

There are over 2,000 four-year colleges in the United States for students to consider. How can families identify those schools at which their student will be happiest and most successful? This talk will teach parents how to be savvy college shoppers. We’ll share ways to recognize what types of colleges might be good fits and show parents how to evaluate the many factors that need to be considered like size, location, and majors. We’ll even discuss how to visit colleges, a college planning ritual that sounds easy but can sometimes be as stressful as full-contact karate.

Monthly Titan Parent Meeting, Wednesday, December 14th, 1:00 PM Staff Lounge

Topic: Majors and Professions – Is There a Connection?

What is the connection between college majors and professions if there is one at all?  How can we get teens curious about this topic in the first place? Parents will learn how college major offerings have changed since 2000 as well as how majors are correlated to future professions.  We will also learn how to use Family Connection/Naviance to learn more about college majors and professions with hopes that this information will spark our teens with some interests, intrigue, and questions.

Location: Staff Lounge (please check in the office for a visitor badge)
